Today Karuna is proud to head the WIT Foods Production unit. She never dreamed that she could achieve so much

Karuna was the daughter of a single parent, it was challenging and difficult for her to educate herself. When she was a young girl she lived with her father and his brother’s family. It was only after cooking their two daily meals and looking after them that she could think about doing something for her own future.

She had very little time but she managed to go to college and keep up with assignments. Her father’s sister paid for her college education but Karuna paid her own travel and other expenses by giving tuitions to school children.

Karuna finished college and went on to complete her post graduation in Nutrition Food Technology from SNDT University

After her marriage, her in-laws did not want her to work but she had a supportive husband. Karuna joined WIT after the 2005 floods of Mumbai which had wiped out the ground floor Food Department of WIT
Today, twelve years later, Karuna heads a dedicated WIT team of 7 and also has an assistant. It is her duty to make sure that all the ingredients are of top quality and that production and dispatches meet required standards.

She also handles the in-house laboratory which checks the quality of each batch produced. The WIT food unit follows HACCP international guidelines and in coordination with the WIT Food Technologist, Karuna is responsible for all new sampling.

Once settled Karuna longed for her own home. She qualified for a loan and today she is the proud owner of a home equipped according to her needs.

Karuna still looks after her in-laws and her ailing father. She is also the mother of 2 young children. She pays for her daughter’s education and hopes that one day her daughter can achieve the same independence that she did.

WIT wishes Karuna all the best and is sure that her confidence will be passed on to her children
