The teaching of the skills involved in making toys is a further example of WIT’s aim to prepare women for the option of independent employment. The WIT trained supervisor and her full time workers, all local girls, are paid per piece on a monthly basis. Once trained, a worker may continue to work for WIT but also has the option of setting up a small business on her own, working from home. Started in 1993, the Toy Department produces a wide variety of ever popular children’s toys, as well as a range of seasonal decorations to meet the variety of festivals in the calendar. The toys made are constantly updated and changed and might include stuffed animals, puppets, balls, child pillows, animal strings and child purses. Both Western and Indian markets are catered for and we are happy to make items to customer’s particular specification.
